Part I: Introduction to Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation

Fundamental issues related to physical therapy and rehabilitation in veterinary medicine:

  • Stress and strain, trauma, immobilization and remobilization
  • Functional anatomy (joints, spine, muscles)
  • Performance physiology and performance parameters
  • Rehabilitation techniques and common indications for treatment
  • Setting up a physical therapy practice (personnel, facilities, equipment)

Massage and Acupressure:

  • How does massage work
  • When is massage recommended
  • Basic strokes of classical massage
  • Basic strokes of Tuina massage
  • Acupressure in physical therapy

The curriculum comprises 5 parts (cklick on the parts list next to "Subjects")

Collaboration between the veterinary and physical therapy professions will be emphasized to enhance the learning experience. How to get started in the field and protocol development will be reviewed.
