Canine III PT: Medical/Surgical Management of Orthopedic/Neurologic Conditions and Physical/ Electrotherapeutic Modalities

This course will provide the participant with the didactic and clinical applications of selected physical agent modalities used in canine physical rehabilitation. Superficial heating and cooling agents, therapeutic ultrasound, extracorporeal shock wave treatment, cold lasers, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation will be covered in the lecture, with laboratories to practice using the modalities.

This course will provide the participant with the basic skills necessary to perform an orthopedic and neurologic evaluation on the dog. Commonly seen orthopedic and neurologic conditions and their medical and surgical management will be included, especially as they relate to rehabilitation. Basic pharmacology related to pain management, bandaging/ splinting techniques, therapeutic exercise, and outcome measures are also covered in this course as well as canine-specific applications of electrotherapeutic modalities. Techniques will be practiced on dogs.
